Coronavirus Update

To stop the further spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus), all Kentucky school districts should be prepared to possibly close, Gov. Andy Beshear said Wednesday during a conference call with all state superintendents.

Beshear noted that districts should have plans in place to close within 72 hours should he issue a “strong” recommendation to close schools across the Commonwealth. Currently, no recommendation has been made.

This information is being shared so that the entire Cumberland County school community can make future plans based on this possibility.

If Cumberland County Schools close in the future, SLED Day work from days 5-10 will be used. Additional information will be communicated if an extended school closure is necessary.

As a school district, we are continuing to focus on the following protocols to prevent the spread of illness:
-Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands;
-Avoid close contact with people who are sick;
-Stay home when you are sick;
-Cough or sneeze into your elbow or use a tissue and place it immediately in the trash; and
-Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

School personnel also continue to take precautions by wiping down hard surfaces and cleaning areas used by students periodically throughout the day. School administrators are working closely with guidance from the commissioner of education, the Center for Disease Control, and local health officials to make decisions regarding student health and safety.
